Rescue Organizations

An animal rescue organization is dedicated to pet adoption. These groups take unwanted, abandoned, abused, or stray pets and attempt to find suitable homes for them. Many rescue groups are created by and run by volunteers, who take the animals into their homes and care for them; including training, playing, handling medical issues, and solving behavior problems — until a suitable permanent home can be found.

Rescue groups exist for most pet types (reptile rescue, rabbit rescue or bird rescue), but are most common for dogs and cats. For animals with many breeds, rescue groups may specialize in specific breeds or groups of breeds. For example, there might be local Labrador Retriever rescue groups, hunting dog rescue groups, large-dog rescue groups, as well as general dog rescue groups.

We do not charge a fee to list animal rescue groups.

We are a 24hr emergency shelter for sick and abused animals. The Animal Ambulance was established in 2002. We are a registered non profit organisation and exist entirely on donations from individuals and fundraising events. We receive no funding from the government.

The purpose of The Animal Ambulance is to aid abused and sick animals who without our help would die an often painful death. We believe in giving all animals a second chance as we are a pro life shelter.

After the animal is rehabilitated we offer them up for adoption in exchange for a fee. All our dogs are sterilized except the puppies.

Pet Rescue North, Inc. (PRN) was established in 1992 as a non-profit, NO-KILLanimal shelter, registered with the State of Florida. PRN was the dream of a lady named Barbara Moody. She felt all abandoned and stray animals on the Northside of Jacksonville deserved to find a haven where they would be safe until suitable homes could be found. However, Barbara became seriously ill and passed away before her dream could become a reality.

Peggy Haynes, a dedicated, hard working volunteer took over operation of PRN and the associated shelter. Although PRN is not yet the big beautiful facility Barbara had envisioned, we are fulfilling some of her dreams. PRN has been operating now for over twenty-two (22) years thanks to one of our original sponsors Dr. Philip Hightman, DVM. Dr. Hightman provided the property (via a no interest mortgage) for our kennels and reasonably priced medical care to get our shelter moving forward.

International Cat Care

Millions of people around the world love cats, either having them as pets, living alongside them in the community, or treating and caring for them as veterinary surgeons or cat professionals.

But we know many cats are not kept as well as they could be and there is also a great deal of suffering – because information is scarce, because the needs of cats are misunderstood, because good veterinary care is not available, because humane population control is not considered or, unfortunately because like many other animals, they are treated cruelly or neglected.
