The SPCA of East Texas
Because there is no community shelter to facilitate the reuniting of lost pets or the adoption of homeless pets, more than 10000 animals are euthanized each year in Smith County. The shelters that do exist are selective admission, do not accept animals picked up by animal control, and do not investigate reports of neglect and abuse. Clearly there is a tremendous void that needs to be filled.
The SPCA of East Texas was founded in 2010, as a non-profit organization by a group of Tyler citizens concerned for the welfare of animals in our community.
Our goal is to build a warm, family friendly, local animal services center. This community center will serve both the City of Tyler and Smith County in the rescue and adoption of as many homeless pets as possible. Additionally, this organization will promote and educate our community about the humane treatment of animals, pet overpopulation and the prevention of cruelty to animals.
